DESCRIPTION
The Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute of Sinai Health, a University of Toronto-affiliated biomedical research center, is recruiting emerging leaders in the area of Systems, Cellular, Chemical, Developmental or Molecular Biology with a focus on studying and treating human diseases. The appointments will be for Principal Investigators (rank equivalent to Assistant Professor).
We seek applicants to develop innovative, outstanding and independent programs in Systems, Cellular, Chemical, Developmental or Molecular Biology. Research approaches include, but are not limited to, the application of functional genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, chemical biology, single-cell analytics, structural biology and cell/tissue engineering to investigate biological processes or develop new therapeutic approaches using human and/or model organisms. Topic areas encompass network and systems biology, regenerative biology, immunology/microbiology, next-generation therapeutics, cellular physiology, and disease mechanisms. Applicants with combined computational and wet lab focus are also encouraged to apply.
The successful candidates will join the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute’s faculty, who are internationally renowned for their work in network biology, cancer, developmental and structural biology, imaging, and proteomics. With numerous discoveries in basic and applied research in cancer, stem cell biology, diabetes, genetic disorders, neurobiology and women’s and infants’ health, the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute is committed to excellence in health research and the training of young investigators. The Institute provides a research-intensive environment with modern and innovative core facilities that include proteomics, single-cell and spatial genomics platforms, robotics and imaging that drive technology development and are housed in the Network Biology Collaborative Centre. Sinai Health System is also the home of The Centre for Phenogenomics, a state-of-the-art facility for mouse models, and is a founding member of the Nanoscale Biomedical Imaging Facility. Close ties with flagship clinical programs focusing on fetal medicine and women’s health, cancer genetics, diabetes, autoimmune/inflammatory diseases and infectious disease, as well as a history of biotech entrepreneurship, ensure the successful application of our research findings.
Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute labs engage in productive collaborations within the Institute, Sinai Health System, the larger University of Toronto community, and beyond. Qualifications
Investigators at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute are appointed to independent positions equivalent to Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, depending on experience; preference for this opportunity will be given to individuals qualifying at the level of Assistant Professor. Investigators will be cross-appointed to appropriate research or clinical department(s) at the University of Toronto.
Successful candidates will hold a PhD and/or MD degree, with postdoctoral experience and an established record of research accomplishment as demonstrated by outstanding publications, presentations at international conferences, awards and accolades, and reference letters. The successful candidates will be expected to initiate and lead innovative, independent, and externally funded, research programs of the highest international calibre and impact.

Nominees should be within ten years of receiving their PhD or MD degree (not including career breaks, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process.
